The Member for Badcoe Jayne Stinson MP has opened the new Elizabeth Ryan Reserve at Plympton Park - which is another promise to the local community that she’s delivered.
The block next to the old playground, on the corner of Herbert and Peckham Streets, used to be a run-down Housing SA property. It was the subject of many complaints from locals to their local MP.
When the last tenant left, Ms Stinson pushed for the dilapidated block to be purchased and added to the ageing Elizabeth Ryan Reserve next door. The larger space was then transformed with the play space entirely reimagined.
$330,000 was granted by the state Labor government’s Open Space Fund to buy the land and make the dream a reality.
Elizabeth Ryan Reserve now includes:
new nursery rhyme-themed play equipment including a playset, slides, swings, hammock rocker and pole spinner
more native trees and a grassed space
a little library for donations and borrowing
an explanatory panel about the park’s namesake Elizabeth Ryan
a colourful mural by Ella Germain
dog drinking station (yes, you can bring your dog on-leash)
in-built irrigation
more seating - a very special thank you to Plympton-Glenelg RSL for their generous donation of a bench reminding us of the importance of mental health.
Also in Plympton Park, Ms Stinson has fully funded and delivered the upgrade of Aldridge Avenue Reserve and pledged to get irrigation re-installed at Teesdale Crescent Reserve. Ms Stinson will keep pushing the council to reinstate irrigation at Teesdale Crescent Reserve, with the $20 000 she has provided to council.
