Member for Badcoe Jayne Stinson MP has officially opened the new workshop at Millswood’s SASMEE model train park.
The dream was realised with $151 000 provided by the state government following an election commitment by Ms Stinson at the 2022 election.
IN her speech to unveil the plaque and declare the workshop open, Ms Stinson said “There are many things made here. Rails and wheels and signals - and even a great hot cuppa! But what’s really generated here - is joy.“
“The joy of those who make these amazing machines; the joy of those who run and maintain this magical place - and above all - the joy on children’s faces when they get a ride on one of these beautiful trains.”
The workshop will allow train engineers to work on their trains, store tools and shared large equipment at a central location, rather than having to use their own sheds, which is not always practical or possible. It is also an enclosed, all-weather space.
The curved-roof design is in keeping with the railway station designs of yesteryear and great care was taken in it’s design and construction (thanks Peter!)
Ms Stinson extended her congratulations to the SASMEE executive, volunteers and those who built this fantastic new addition.
