ABOUT JAYNE

Jayne Stinson was elected as the Member for Badcoe on 17 March 2018 and appointed straight to the Shadow Ministry. Jayne has served in the portfolios of Planning and Development, Local Government, Child Protection, Multicultural Affairs and Arts.

Jayne is the Chair of the Parliament’s Environment, Resources and Development Committee, Chair of the Select Inquiry into Access to Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) treatment and a member of the Art Committee. Jayne was also elected as the SA Parliament’s representative to the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Association (2022 - 2026) and is a South Australian delegate to the ALP National Convention in 2023.

Jayne is an award-winning TV and radio journalist who has spent more than a decade reporting on our courts and social justice issues including child protection, domestic violence, mental health and multiculturalism.

Jayne began her journalism career with the ABC and later reported for Ten News and the Seven Network. Jayne has also worked overseas in India, Cambodia and Africa.

Jayne’s family battled unemployment when she was young, so she knows the value of education, training, and a secure job – as well as a social safety net.

Jayne’s Dad ran his own small business in the manufacturing sector. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious back injury at work, requiring years of intense treatment. Jayne knows first-hand the value of public health care and protecting workers’ rights.

A quality public education made all the difference in Jayne’s life, and the lives of her younger sisters. It meant she had the chance to complete school, go to uni and get a decent job, despite the challenges her family faced.

Jayne is passionate about community safety and the protection of vulnerable children. She has Chaired the Victim Support Service and served on the Board of pro bono legal organisation JusticeNet. Jayne is a member of Millswood-Clarence Park and Netley Neighbourhood Watch groups.

With Irish and German heritage, Jayne strongly believes everyone deserves to feel included in Australia. That’s why she’s a Welcoming Australia Ambassador and volunteered with the Australian Refugee Association.

Jayne is a long-time local and lives at Forestville in the heart of the electorate of Badcoe. On weekends Jayne can be found at the Unley Swimming Pool, the Showground farmer’s market, watching the footy or soaking up our diverse arts scene. Jayne is also a fan of art deco-era architecture and adores her two kittens Tjala and Maku.
