MEDIA RELEASE: Forestville Reserve Archways design released

Local walkers, runners, cyclists, pram-users and wheelchair-users will soon enjoy greater safety in and around Forestville Reserve, with widened archways under the tram line and broadened shared paths.

Images have been released today showing the final views of the upgraded passageways and paths.

This low-impact solution is the result of a 2022 promise by local MP Jayne Stinson to properly consult with local people and review the original designs for the beloved Forestville Reserve, in which the then Liberal government wanted to build a giant concrete structure and wipe out 50 trees and green space.

As soon as Labor took office, a panel of local representatives was drawn together with design and engineering experts from the Department of Infrastructure and Transport to examine more than a dozen different options to address safety at the Reserve. The group resolved that no large overpass could be constructed without significant damage to the Reserve, which is highly valued by the community.

Instead, this low impact approach has been adopted, complemented by work due to commence in 2026 to upgrade Goodwood Train station including improved underpass drainage, tactile path surface in the underpass, hand rails in the underpass, lighting, CCTV and painting.

The major work on the archways starts from 4 August 2025 when the tram line will be shut down for six months for four major infrastructure projects. Preparatory work at the site will begin within weeks.
